Welcome to ACOSS – Agency for Community Sanitation and Sustainability. We are a local humanitarian organization based in Yumbe Town Council, dedicated to promoting WaSH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) and environmental sustainability. Founded in August 2018 by a team of passionate WaSH and environmental enthusiasts, ACOSS is registered with the Yumbe District NGO Forum.
Our Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WaSH) interventions are designed to address the critical needs of communities, ensuring access to clean water, proper sanitation, and hygiene education, through solid waste management, borehole drilling & water treatment, distribution of hygiene kits for community health and sustainability, and education.
Our initiatives aim to safeguard the environment and promote sustainable living. This involves tree planting to protect the environment , sensitization on environmental management, installation and construction of affordable and renewable energy alternatives collection ,disposal and recycling of plastic materials from water sources, farmlands and town centres and climate change adoption and mitigation strategies.
Our efforts focus on empowering local communities to engage in civic responsibility, either directly or through elected representatives. Through community dialogues, trainings, and capacity building, we strengthen local leadership structures for sustainable development.
Our training programs are designed to lift households out of poverty through economic and social empowerment. To date, we’ve trained 70 sanitation entrepreneurs and 10 volunteers in desludging and business development, educated 10 farmer groups on tree planting while assisting them in forming a SILC group, and supported 3 groups of 30 women vendors in recycling and waste-to-wealth initiatives.
